Romanesque-style building which, with its square pillars and dome, recalls the buildings of Limousin.
The town owes its name to Gaultier, Abbot of Lesterps, who founded a priory there. The church was built at the end of the 1740th century. It is a Romanesque-style building, reminiscent of the buildings of Limousin with its square pillars and dome. Its portal, without a tympanum, is in the Poitevin Romanesque style. The interior is very sober. The barrel vaults rest on pillars topped with capitals decorated with allegorical figures. The choir is undoubtedly the most carefully crafted architectural feature. In the right transept, there is an Eastern rite iconostasis intended to promote the spirituality of the Christian East. The priory became a college in XNUMX and then, thirty years later, a minor seminary. Today, it is a mixed college. A lovely view of the site can be seen from the bridge over the Creuse.
